May 2013 Desktop Wallpaper – Bowling Ball Beach

Late April and early May has been a whirlwind for me with a cross-country move and several trips in between, so my apologies for the delay on the May wallpaper. Better late than never, though, right?! May’s photo comes from a little known beach in northern California called Bowling Ball Beach. These boulders range from 1 foot wide to some close to 4 feet. A long exposure really sets a nice mood and this particular evening I was blessed with an amazing sunset to complement the boulders.

April 2013 Desktop Wallpaper – Golden Gate and Bay Bridge

In late March, many iconic structures across the world turned off their lights to celebrate Earth Hour. The Golden Gate Bridge was no exception, and I wanted to make sure I photographed the rare experience of the tower lights going dark. After capturing several wide shots, I decided to shoot the Bay Bridge underneath, showing a view of the two major Bay Area bridges from Kirby Cove.

Fresh Shots – One Month in San Francisco

For those that don’t know, I spend my day hours as a web developer and in early February I packed up a few things to pursue new professional knowledge in the Bay Area. The change in scenery has been incredibly inspiring and I can’t remember the last day that I missed the sunset. Being here has also led my photography to take an interesting turn. I’ve been exploring new ways to visualize scenes for editing using VSCO presets and lots of high contrast black and white, semi-replicating the feeling of film.

I’ve been to Yosemite and Big Sur twice and my new favorite thing to do is drive down Highway 1, taking in the ocean at sunset – windows down, music up. Here’s a collection of my favorite shots from the last month. I’ll be in the Bay Area for two more months, so expect more sunsets and ocean scenes to come!

March 2013 Desktop Wallpaper – Pigeon Point Lighthouse

Over the past month I’ve made the move to Bay Area from California. My last few weeks have presented amazing opportunities not only to shoot with the excellent photographers that live in this area, but to photograph something different from the mountains of Colorado. I’ve spend a good amount of my time just driving down Highway 1, taking in sunsets. This shot was taken near Santa Cruz at the Pigeon Point Lighthouse.

December 2012 Desktop Wallpaper – Golden Gate Bridge

December 2012 Desktop Wallpaper Golden Gate Bridge

Earlier this month, I had an opportunity to shoot with 4 of my favorite San Francisco photographers in their own backyard and what better place to shoot in the bay area than the Golden Gate Bridge. Thanks to Joe Azure, Toby Harriman, Michael Bonocore, and Todd Sipes for showing me one of the best place to shoot the Golden Gate Bridge.

March 2012 Desktop Wallpaper – Rocky Mountain National Park

March 2012 Desktop Wallpaper Rocky Mountain National Park

I’ve been pretty busy this month with a complete redesign of this Web site. My intention is to have my photos be seen up close and personal in a full-screen format on the home page. It’s 99% done, and I hope to announce it early next week. Because of this, though, I’ve had little time to get out and shoot. Winter has finally arrived in Colorado (3 months late) and I’m getting the itch to get back outdoors and shoot skiers and ice climbing.

For this month’s wallpaper, I dove deep into the archives of last autumn for this shot from an early morning hike in Rocky Mountain National Park. Longs Peak is the tallest peak in the park and can be seen for miles around, including from Denver. The color from the aspen trees was especially bright this season and it was no exception on this cool October morning.

February 2012 Desktop Wallpaper – Montana de Oro Sunset

February 2012 Desktop Wallpaper Montana de Oro

This month, I’ve introduced several new sizes to the monthly wallpaper, including a Facebook cover photo that works with the new Timeline feature that has recently been rolling out. I reviewed my web stats for the last year and released the wallpaper in the top 15 most popular desktop dimensions for browsing my site and I will continue to do so each month.

This photo was shot at Montana de Oro State Park in California. My favorite part of this area of California, aside for the beautiful scenery, is that there was absolutely no one around. I didn’t see a single soul for the nearly 3 hours spent on this bit of coastline. At this particular area, the leading lines of the rock features were interesting to me and made natural shapes out of the ocean water. The sunset this spring evening was a particularly long one, and I was grateful to have the extra time for composing each shot perfectly.
